Balboa Thrift and Loan announced the promotion of Debbie Escobedo to president and chief executive officer, making her the 36-year-old institution’s first female Latina leader.

“It’s an honor to be given this responsibility and opportunity,” said Escobedo. “For the past 28 years, I’ve seen the finance industry go through recessions and peaks, and I can happily say that I am confident in the future of our service as we work with quality auto dealers and brokers in the communities we serve.”

She joined Balboa Thrift in 1990 as one of 11 employees. The institution has since grown to nearly 100 employees across four locations in California, including its headquarters in Chula Vista and branches in Claremont, La Quinta, and Fresno.

Escobedo is currently the chair of the Chula Vista Police Foundation and has served on the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Balboa Thrift specializes in automobile and commercial real estate loans.
