Utility workers accidentally knocked out power Monday to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, forcing the hospital to use a backup system.
The hospital on Grossmont Center Drive lost power shortly after 11 a.m., according to San Diego Gas and Electric spokeswoman Allison Torres.
Water utility workers inadvertently hit an underground electrical line that delivers power to Sharp Grossmont, Torres said.
The hospital was quickly able to restore power with a backup generator, but it will take an estimated 24 hours to repair the electrical line, according to Torres.
