The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday that its president and CEO, former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, will lead the organization through 2022.

Sanders assumed leadership of the chamber in 2012. His current contract was set to expire at the end of 2020.

“Since day one Jerry has had a positive impact on the chamber and has been the driving force behind the chamber’s growth and effectiveness,” said Sam Attisha, chair of the chamber and senior vice president and region manager for Cox Communications.

“We are truly fortunate to have a trusted leader like Jerry who is so invested in a prosperous future for our region,” Attisha added.

Sanders said he is “extremely proud of the strides we have made in establishing the chamber as a strong, effective voice for the business community and I look forward to building on that progress.”

The chamber is the largest business organization of its type on the West Coast, representing 2,500 businesses with 300,000 employees.
