“We are proud to have recently expanded our strategic relationship with Samsung to continue our joint efforts to bring breakthrough mobile experiences to consumers with the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of mobile for Qualcomm Technologies.
The announcement of the new phones, which are designed to compete with the Apple iPhone X, came at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain.
Qualcomm said its new Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform features ultra HD premium capture for cinema-quality video, gigabit LTE for 1.2-gigabit-per-second connections and a new eight-core computing architecture for faster overall performance.
The Galaxy S9+ incorporates front and rear 12-megapixel cameras to make use of the new Qualcomm technology.
Tae Moon Roh, executive vice president and the head of mobile R&D for Samsung, said the new phones are “built for the way we use our smartphones to communicate and share experiences today, supported by our continuous pursuit for the latest technology with Qualcomm Technologies.”
