The $19.4 million purchase of a full city block on the north end of Little Italy in San Diego was announced Thursday by a broker.
Colliers International San Diego said the buyer, Kilroy Realty of Los Angeles, plans to construct a 172,000-square-foot office building on the site at Kettner Boulevard and West Hawthorn Street. Retail space would also be included.
It would be the first new office development in Little Italy in 20 years, according to Colliers.
The planned height wasn’t specified. The block is located close to the east end of the main runway at Lindbergh Field.
“We felt the development of a new office building on this block would further enhance Little Italy and be catalytic for the downtown office market,” said Victor Krebs, Colliers’ senior vice president, who along with Mark Lewkowitz represented the buyer and seller.
Krebs said the block is currently divided into three parcels, which house an engineering firm and auto rental companies, among other things.
The parcels are at 2100-2174 Kettner Blvd and 946 W Hawthorn Street.
