Rep. Scott Peters will lead a San Diego trade mission next week to London and Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
During the three-day mission beginning Monday, local companies and organizations will promote key San Diego industries, establish and develop business relationships and explore opportunities for San Diego companies to tap into Britain’s expertise in smart cities, urban planning and life sciences.
“San Diego’s economy is a center for international trade thanks to innovation and leadership in our key industries” said Peters. “Our world-class life sciences and defense sectors opened new markets in the U.K. and every day there are more opportunities for collaboration. In today’s increasingly global economy, supporting San Diego’s role in international trade markets supports economic growth and jobs back home.”
The trip comes as the U.K. wrestles with leaving the European Union and may be looking for new trade relationships.
“The U.K. is the second largest investor in Southern California. This trip is one example of how the U.K. and San Diego support one another’s prosperity, and are working in partnership to stay at the forefront of innovation,” said British Consul General Michael Howells.
The mission is being organized by the World Trade Center San Diego, an affiliate of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.
