Balboa Park was voted “Best California Attraction” for the Reader’s Choice Award on 10Best.com, beating out notable competitors like Disneyland, Yosemite Park and Lake Tahoe.
More than 10 million visitors explore museums, gardens, trails, art venues and cultural attractions at the 1,200-acre park each year. The city’s “crown jewel” park received top honors as the number one spot to visit in the state, said city officials.
“Balboa Park continues to instill a sense of wonder in both residents and visitors alike with its ornate architecture, exotic gardens and cultural amenities,” said Herman Parker, director of the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department, in a statement.
The park has been designated as a National Historical Landmark, offering over 17 museums, luxuriant gardens, playgrounds, fountains, architecture and the world famous San Diego Zoo, said city officials.
“We are honored that the crown jewel of the City was recognized as a top destination in California and are delighted to be able to offer a truly one of a kind experience to the public,” added Parker.
