San Diego developer Sudberry Properties has purchased land for a 132,000-square-foot lifestyle destination shopping center at the gateway to the 210-acre Millenia project in Chula Vista.

The Millenia Commons project will be located directly south of Otay Ranch Town Center. Leases are already signed with HomeGoods, Cost Plus World Market, Ross Dress for Less, buybuy Baby, Mattress Firm, Hurricane Grill & Wings, Papagayos Grill & Cantina, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Great Clips, Jamba Juice, McDonald’s and Pacific Dental Services.

Sudberry, which is also developing the Civita project in Mission Valley, said its 12.5-acre Chula Vista project will feature contemporary urban design with an emphasis on walkability and outdoor gathering spaces.

“We’re excited to become a part of Millenia — and obviously so are a large contingent of nationally recognized tenants,” said Colton Sudberry, president of Sudberry Properties. “We’ve enjoyed a great response from best-in-class retailers and restaurants who share our enthusiasm for this future urban hub. Our experience in South County with EastLake Village Marketplace has been excellent and we look forward to another opportunity to serve South County residents.”

Construction is expected to start this summer with the grand opening anticipated in the summer of 2018.

Designated a SANDAG Smart Growth Urban Center, Millenia is planned to have 3,000 multi-family residences, 2 million square feet of office space, 1.5 million square feet of retail, hospitality, civic and mixed-use projects and six urban parks, linked by tree-lined promenades, bikeways, and plazas
