Two Encinitas companies known for developing luxury hotels and housing announced Friday they will acquire a 16-acre parcel overlooking Del Mar’s “Dog Beach” for a future resort development.

The Robert Green Company and its partner Zephyr are proposing to build a luxury resort, branded resort villas, restaurants and meeting space west of Camino Del Mar on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The two companies plan to incorporate a city park into their project and connect it with four acres of existing city-owned land with walking paths atop the bluff.

“When we envisioned the concept for this development over a year ago, a major goal was to maximize opportunities for the community to enjoy this incredible space, with its existing natural beauty and abundant resources,” said Zephyr CEO Brad Termini. “We’re excited to work with the city and its residents to start the planning process.”

The Robert Green Company developed the Four Seasons hotels and resorts in Carlsbad, Palo Alto and Jackson, WY, and more recently the Pendry Hotel in the Gaslamp. Zephyr is known for its high-end, mixed-use developments like The Park, a 14-story residential building in Bankers Hill.

“Del Mar offers unbelievable beaches, a vibrant and beautiful downtown, hiking trails and of course the race track,” said Robert Green. “We look forward to introducing a design that is unique to the city’s identity and complements the community character.”
