Sharp HealthCare has begun construction of a $244 million hospital tower in Chula Vista that will add 138 private patient rooms and six operating rooms to serve the growing South County region.
The project is Sharp’s largest single investment to date and is being funded through philanthropic donations to Sharp HealthCare Foundation, bonds, cash reserves and the Medi-Cal hospital fee program.
“We’re committed to expanding Sharp Chula Vista as this binational community continues to grow,” said Pablo Velez, chief executive officer at Sharp Chula Vista. “An important part of that commitment includes building quickly and efficiently and being good stewards of the funds entrusted to us.”
The new tower will feature 10 intensive-care suites, a redesigned main entrance and lobby and a rooftop cafe.
Sharp Chula Vista employs more than 2,000 staff and and has nearly 500 affiliated physicians.
