A Nordstrom Rack store opened Friday morning in the La Jolla Village neighborhood, bringing to five the number of discount locations operated by the Seattle-based retailer in San Diego.

The 32,000-square-foot, off-price outlet is located at 8875 Villa La Jolla Drive.

It will stock a wide selection of apparel, accessories and shoes from Nordstrom stores at 30 to 70 percent off regular prices. The company describes the rack concept as offering “the ultimate treasure hunt to style-savvy customers.”

“San Diego has been a great home to us for many years and our new store will help us more conveniently serve those in North County,” said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack, in announcing the store last year.

The first Nordstrom Rack opened as a clearance center in the lower-level of the downtown Seattle Nordstrom store in 1973. The concept has since gone national as Nordstrom expanded.
