The internationally famous Golden Door spa in Escondido is opening a nearby farm stand on Saturday that will sell organic-only produce, marmalades and preserves.

A grand opening event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon at the new stand on 314 Deer Springs Road in San Marcos. Visitors can sample appetizers from the Golden Door Farm, artisanal foods and the Golden Door’s signature ginger cookies. Pumpkins will be available for children to decorate.

The stand will be open Wednesday through Saturday, year-round, and sell organic-only produce such as herbs, kale, figs, melons, carrots, citrus, beets, eggplant and pomegranates from Golden Door’s gardens, as well as marmalades and preserves from its artisanal foods line.

The spa, which is noted for its Zen architecture on a 600-acre campus, will donate 100 percent of the farm stand proceeds to help abused children.
