A major renovation was completed this week at Kimpton’s Hotel Solamar, the boutique chain’s first Southern California hotel.

The 235-room downtown hotel was redesigned in a Spanish contemporary style, fusing references to Balboa Park and Spanish missions with eclectic modern fixtures and touches.

“We couldn’t be happier with the renovation and re-launch,” said Shannon Foster, general manager at Hotel Solamar. “As the a first Kimpton in San Diego and, particularly in the downtown neighborhood, we’ve witnessed first-hand this city’s major transformation over the past 11 years.

“It’s great to be able to now not only offer a stunning new product in the ideal location, but to truly capture the essence of the city as we continue to create genuine guest experiences,” she added.

The hotel is home to the Jsix Restaurant and offers 14,000 square feet of event space.

San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants pioneered the boutique hotel concept to the United States. The company operates 66 hotels in 34 cities.
