Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns on Monday announced it was named a baby-friendly birth facility.
The hospital, which delivers more than 9,000 babies each year, was recognized by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. The group recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that provide breastfeeding mothers with an exceptional level of support, information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully breastfeed.
Sharp Mary Birch was also recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as part of its Magnet program. The organization recognizes health care organizations that provide superior nursing processes and quality patient care.
Sharp Mary Birch has nine operating rooms, 206 beds, including the region’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 84 beds, a 14-bed Women’s Acute Care Unit, a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit with a nursery to allow mom and baby stay together, and a Neonatal Research Institute.
