Startup carrier JetPurple Airwayz announced Monday plans for luxury, non-stop flights between San Diego and Phoenix starting in 2016.
The Scottsdable-based company also has ambitious plans to offer flights between Burbank, near the major Hollywood studios, and destinations in Asia.
The company, which previously operated public charter flights from Chicago’s Midway Airport to gaming destinations in Michigan, says it now plans to assemble its own fleet of Boeing 737-800 jets and, for San Diego flights, Airbus ATR-42 turboprop aircraft.
“JetPurple Airwayz flights will depart and arrive at private, general aviation ramp VIP terminals, just like private aircraft,” said President and CEO Adam Blumenkranz. “As a next generation airline, JetPurple is a smarter choice in passenger air travel compared to established legacy airlines.”
Proposed round trip fare from San Diego to the Scottsdale airport near Phoenix is $500.
The company said it is in the process of arranging financing for aircraft and preparing applications to submit to the Federal Aviation Administration.
