The Fish Market Restaurant on the waterfront in downtown San Diego will reopen Monday after repairs necessitated by a fire in May.

The popular restaurant sustained $1.2 million in fire and water damage, but the owners made a decision to reopen as quickly as possible. The restaurant’s 300 employees were compensated during the two-month rebuilding process.

“We made a commitment to re-build and re-open as quickly as possible and we are grateful to the Port of San Diego, the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego for their support and assistance throughout the process,” said Dwight Colton, vice president of operations for the restaurnat company.

The restaurant, which first opened in 1989, has been refreshed and updated in the process, with new color palette, ceiling treatments, fabrics and wall coverings.

Work still remains to be done to repair the Top of the Market potion the restaurant, which will re-open in six-to-eight weeks.

The company has another location in Del Mar as well as four restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area.
