LEAD San Diego, a nonprofit that trains community leaders, honored four individuals and a bi-national organization with its annual Visionary Awards.

The awards reception at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront drew hundreds of community and business leaders on Thursday night and included a speech by Rep. Scott Peters. LEAD Chairman Bill Geppert honored the following visionaries:

  • Dr. A. Brent Eastman received the Neil Morgan Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement. Eastman, former chief medical officer of Scripps Health, is a leader in emergency medical care who has helped improve trauma systems both nationally and internationally.
  • Jo Dee C. Jacob was named the LEAD Graduate of the Year. Jacob is the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts San Diego.
  • Jack Raymond received the Ronald Kendrick Memorial Award for Regional Collaboration. Raymond is chairman and CEO of The Raymond Companies in Escondido and a long-time leader in the regional community.
  • Bruce Binkowski received the Economic Opportunity Award. This award recognizes visionary leaders who create economic opportunities. Binkowski is the former executive director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association.

    The CaliBaja Bi-National Mega-Region received the Charles Nathanson Memorial Award for Cross-Border Region Building. The organization is positioning San Diego County, Imperial County and Northern Baja California as the top research and development and manufacturing mega-region in North America.

Also honored as finalists for LEAD’s Community Spotlight Awards were 11 individuals and organizations considered “unsung heros” because of their efforts. Karen and Jamie Moyer, founders of The Moyer Foundation for service to children, received the top honor.

LEAD was founded in 1981 to help community leaders become more informed and civically active, creating a pipeline of leadership for San Diego.
