Flagship Cruises & Events, a ferry company that evolved into one of San Diego’s largest cruise companies, is marking 100 years on the bay this weekend.

Originally founded in 1915 as the Star & Crescent Boat Company, Flagship operates the two Coronado ferries as well as a fleet of harbor tour and whale-watching boats. The locally-owned company operates 11 vessels and carried over 1 million passengers last year.

The company’s ferries served Coronado for decades before the Coronado Bridge was constructed, and service resumed in 1987 after a 17-year hiatus.

Flaship is hosting a free, public celebration on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Local craft beer and wine tasting and free appetizers will be offered aboard the California Spirit, California Princess and Quiet Heart yachts while docked at 990 North Harbor Drive. Complimentary rides on Flagship’s Patriot jet boat will also be offered.
