“Venture Beyond Borders” is the name of a new initiative announced Wednesday to assist entrepreneurs and promote business along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The CaliBaja Bi-National Mega-Region, which represents San Diego and Imperial counties, and Endeavor Mexico, a global entrepreneurship movement, signed a memorandum of understanding and agreed to create a new program to mentor entrepreneurs.

“Innovation and ideas do not have geographical boundaries,” said Bob Watkins, board president of CaliBaja. “This alliance with Endeavor Mexico will stimulate cross-border venturing and cooperation, and will strengthen our megaregion’s global competitiveness.”

“Mexican entrepreneurs look for business opportunities and capabilities from a global scale,” said Pilar Aguilar, managing director of Endeavor Mexico. “The Venture Beyond Borders agreement enhances and further develops collaborative binational ties between entrepreneurs, mentors and investors in the megaregion.”

To help facilitate this collaboration, CaliBaja and Endeavor Mexico will have monthly meetings designed to foster cross-border communication and opportunities. Additionally, the two organizations will work together to support a new entrepreneur mentorship program and develop a binational strategic plan to strengthen entrepreneurship.

With a combined population of more than 6.5 million, the California-Mexico megaregion boasts the largest concentration of population along the U.S-Mexico border.
