A buzzing character inspired by San Diego-based Bumble Bee Seafoods‘ mascot is featured in an animated children’s film premiering Saturday in Los Angeles.
“The Hero of Color City” chronicles the adventures of a diverse band of crayons that come to life as a young boy named Ben drifts off to sleep.
The Bumble Bee character, inspired by Bumble Bee Seafoods’ own brand mascot and voiced by Sean Astin, is a playful and courageous master chef buzzing with energy.

“We’re thrilled to see our beloved mascot portrayed on the big screen,” said Dave Melbourne, Bumble Bee’s senior vice president for consumer marketing and corporate social responsibility. “It’s such a fun project to be a part of and we have a lot of exciting things in store to help even more audiences share in Bumble Bee’s adventure.”
The film is directed by animation veteran Frank Gladstone and voiced by an all-star cast including Christina Ricci, Craig Ferguson, Rosie Perez, Wayne Brady and Jessica Capshaw.
Bumble Bee has launched a microsite which includes information about the film and its characters, along with interactive games, puzzles and coloring activities.
The film is being released by Mark Cuban’s Magnolia Pictures and will hit select Landmark Theaters nationwide on Oct. 3 along with availability on iTunes and On Demand.
Bumble Bee Seafoods, headquartered in San Diego, is North America’s largest branded shelf-stable seafood company, offering a full line of canned and pouched tuna, salmon, sardine, and specialty protein products.
