Prankster Steve-O of “Jackass” fame has taken credit, via YouTube, for covering part of a freeway sign near Mission Bay to offer up his anti-SeaWorld message.

“Yeah, dude. I’m putting my foot down for Shamu,” the extreme prankster and animal rights activist said via the post, titled “Breaking the Law! – Steve-O.”

Steven Glover, 40, otherwise known as Steve-O, from the movie and television franchise “Jackass,” can be seen in the short clip posted to his YouTube page as he uses rope to climb atop the green sign hanging over Interstate 5. After several tries over two days – set to dramatic music – he gives up the rope for a large ladder and is able to cover the “Drive” in Sea World Drive with the word “SUCKS.”

“We’re not giving up,” he said, as the process wore on. Later, after accomplishing his mission, Steve-O says, “If doing that is wrong, I don’t want to be right,” before making an obscene gesture directed at SeaWorld.

He asked others, while cradling a dog and showing an image of his holding an inflatable killer whale, to share the video using the hashtag #SeaWorldSucks.

He also asked followers to wish him “luck with the law.”

It remained unclear Steve-O will face charges in connection with the May incident, but Steve Saville of Caltrans told NBC7 the agency was referring the information to the California Highway Patrol.

“We consider defacing public property at a cost to state taxpayers an unlawful act and a dangerous distraction for motorists,” Saville told NBC7.

SeaWorld San Diego could not immediately be reached for comment. The amusement park has been under increasing pressure as animal activists have criticized officials for conditions faced by killer whales in captivity. SeaWorld officials announced that they plan to enhance the habitats for the killer whales, days after they reported disappointing financial results, and their stock value took a hit.
