ViaSat Inc. of Carlsbad, which makes satellite and other wireless networking systems, has won a $30.6 million Army contract for what the Pentagon calls “enhanced bandwidth efficient modem” production.
It was the only bidder, according to the Defense Department, and the only company solicited.
The Defense Department announced the award Tuesday, the same day ViaSat reported record operating earnings on a 21 percent increase in revenue for fiscal 2014.
The multiyear project was sought by Army Contracting Command at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., and includes:
- Fabrication and production delivery of the MD-1366(U) Strategic EBEM, MD-1366A(U), tactical EBEM and ethernet service expansion module.
- Post-production software support.
- Hardware maintenance repair.
- And “potential capabilities enhancements” via engineering change proposals.
