Locally-based Cardiff Skate Co., designer of bootless, strap-in skates that automatically adjust to different shoe sizes, announced Wednesday their skates will be available in Brookstone retail stores across the country.

Inspired by inline skates and scooters, “Cardiff Skates” are designed to make skating accessible for all experience levels, the company said. They can be used with a favorite pair of shoes, and automatically adjust to fit.

The company’s website explains that founder Brian Green observed the “huge decline in skating combined with the success of the scooter,” and “set out to create a skating experience that could be enjoyed by skaters of all abilities.”

“We are so excited about our partnership with Brookstone as a major retailer,” said Bob Pollack, Cardiff Skates CEO. “Inline skating was once the fastest growing sport in America. This partnership marks a skating comeback.”

“Cardiff Skates hit stores this month and customers are loving them,” said Steve Schwartz, Brookstone’s vice president of merchandising & product development. “Cardiff developed an innovative, fun way for more people to get where they’re going.”

The Cardiff Skate design features:

  • Automatic size-adjustment to fit shoes
  • Ability to brake with either foot
  • A patented, tri-wheel platform, giving the user a solid base
  • Two sizes available – medium/large and small/medium

The skates are available at Brookstone’s 250 retail locations and online at Brookstone.com for $159.99.
