Discount chain Costco has issued a recall of its store-brand sliced fruit after a supplier warned that it could be tainted with salmonella.

In a letter to Costco customers, the supplier, Oregon Freeze Dry Inc. called for Kirkland Signature Real Sliced Fruit bearing the item number 527069 to be returned. They are marked with “best by dates” from Feb. 14-March 11, 2015.

The company called the recall “a precautionary step,” but asked that any customers who bought the fruit to not eat it and return it immediately. Salmonella can cause nausea and vomiting, particularly in children, the elderly and the inform.

Costco has stores in San Diego in Mission Valley, Carmel Mountain, Chula Vista, Carlsbad, Poway, San Marcos and La Mesa.
