If you love chocolate you won’t want to miss the free event, “Chocolate Connection: Exploring Chocolate Through the Ages and Around the World.”

The community is invited to join Congregational Church of La Jolla‘s Director of Music and professional chocolate expert Nina Gilbert as she unwraps the magic of chocolate through an exploration of its connections to art, history, science, politics, economics, and even military science.

Congregational Church of La Jolla’s Fellowship Hall will provide an backdrop for Gilbert’s guided tasting timed to coincide with beginning of the holiday season, Gilbert’s interactive, palette-pleasing presentation will take place Sunday, Nov. 17, at 12 p.m. The Congregational Church of La Jolla is located at 1216 Cave St. in the heart of the village of La Jolla.

Gilbert will take guests on a tasting odyssey, showcasing single-origin chocolates from Venezuela, Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and the Congo, plus two flavorful blended chocolates.

“Chocolate is a lot like wine or coffee, with hundreds of flavor compounds,” Gilbert explained.  “Guests will be treated to an informative, high-energy presentation, while savoring samples of varietal bittersweets and high-cacoa milk chocolates sourced from around the world. Together, we’ll learn why chocolate has fascinated people for centuries, and explore its wine-related terms like ‘vintage’ and ‘terroir.’ ”

Gilbert’s Chocolate Connection experience is free and open to the public. Guests will be invited to make a free-will offering for their participation. Reservations are not required.
