HalGLOWeen, the San Diego Zoo’s annual Halloween-themed celebration is back. This year, the colorful, glowing extravaganza has been expanded to three weekends — Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only through Oct. 27 —to allow families more time to enjoy all of the fun, fang-tastic entertainment and activities.

As the sun goes down each weekend, from 5 to 9 p.m., guests can join in the family fun of “Boolahoops,” a bubble-icious Bubble Dance Party — featuring billions of bubbles, a DJ and the hip-hop dancing Funky Monkeys—and myriad other entertainment options, including the Skeleton Band, the Spooky Revue, San Diego Zoo Rock Radio 201.8 and the eerie organ keyboardist Dusty Keys, with Tunes from Beyond.

Dr. Zoolittle, the Zoo’s zany maestro of fun, will entertain everyone during the Tricks and Treats show and cupcake walks, while the Zoo Boo Crew will be ready to meet, greet and take photos in their best Halloween costumes. In addition, guests can find out about Featured Creatures from the Zoo’s animal care experts and explore the Python Path for some slithering, surprising sights at the Reptile House.

The fun continues with the fast-paced, magical mayhem of Happy Family, in the 4-D Theater at Northern Frontier. For a small fee, guests can experience a cinematic adventure with the Wishbone family as they work to reverse an evil witch’s spell that turned them into ludicrously spooky monsters. Also, participating restaurants and shops throughout the Zoo will offer HalGLOWeen supplies and treats for purchase, including light-up pumpkin buckets, glowing cotton candy, bubble wands, glow necklaces, cute animal costume onesies, masks and more.

During the entire month of October, kids ages 11 and younger get free admission at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park as part of Kids Free presented by Mission Fed. All children younger than 15 must be accompanied by a paid adult during their visits to the Zoo or the Safari Park. The Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day — except during HalGLOWeen, when the Zoo will stay open until 9 p.m. The Safari Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and until 6 p.m. on weekends.

HalGLOWeen festivities take place only at the Zoo, and are free with paid admission or membership. For more information about HalGLOWeen and Kids Free — and to check out the Zoo’s costume guidelines for kids 11 and younger—visit
