The lineup for the San Diego Symphony‘s popular Bayside Summer Nights series this year will include Chaka Khan, the B-52s, screenings of classic films, jazz nights and, or course, the orchestra.
The symphony announced the 2019 season will include a celebration of the San Diego Padres 50th anniversary, two nights of “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” with live music, singer-composer-actor Lyle Lovett, and two special Comic-Con week concerts.
“Bayside Summer Nights is a ritual for many, and a new discovery for countless San Diegans who are learning what we all know — that it is a special combination of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra with some of today’s top talents in the most beautiful location that is unique to San Diego,” said Martha Gilmer, CEO of the symphony.
“This summer’s programming brings together artists across genres — with more classical programming, great films on the big screen, our annual tribute to Broadway, and fabulous guest artists,” she added.
During the concerts, the symphony will reveal elements of the planned transformation of the temporary band shell at Embarcadero Marina Park South into a state-of-the-art permanent facility.
“When Bayside Performance Park is complete it will instantly become one of California’s most popular places to experience every kind of music,” said Gilmer.
The 24-event series begins with a star spangled Independence Day tribute on June 28 and 29 and ends with the 1812 Tchaikovsky spectacular on Aug. 30 and 31 and Sept. 1. A complete schedule is available online.
Single ticket prices range from $17-$108 and subscriptions for three, four and eight concerts are available. Prepaid parking is $30.
