The sixth annual U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition returns this weekend.
Dubbed one of the must-see seaside festivals in the world by USA Today, the event is held at the Broadway Pier and features sand sculptures built from more than 300 pounds of sand.
Aside from the sand sculpting challenge, guests can also witness and buy other forms of artwork. More than 1,000 pieces of art in different media, ranging from wood, glass and metal, will be on display.
The family-friendly event will also feature live entertainment, gourmet food trucks and a wine and beer garden. Children will also be able to create their own works of art in a sandbox.
Tickets for the event, which runs through Monday, range from $6 to $15.

Festival of Sail
The Port of San Diego Festival of Sail, hosted by the Maritime Museum of San Diego, will take place this weekend. The event, which runs through Monday, features more than 20 tall ships and other fascinating vessels from around the world. Guests can also expect food and drinks from more than a dozen restaurants, a petting zoo, pirates, cannon battles on the bay, sunset cruises, and shopping for one of-a-kind items among more than 150 festival vendors. Hawaiian Plumeria Festival
Head over to Balboa Park this weekend for the Hawaiian Plumeria Festival. The free event, which takes place at Casa del Prado, features more than 100 different types of flowers for sale, live music and dancers and raffles. The family-friendly event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Julian Grape Stomp
Remember that beloved episode of “I Love Lucy” where she attempts to make wine? Be Lucille Ball this weekend in Julian. The Menghini Winery will host an old-fashioned grape stomp this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests will, not only be able to stomp grapes, but taste wine from 10 different wineries, taste great food and shop. There will also be live Italian music. The event is $15 for general admission and $50 for VIP.
SDSU Game & Sky Show
Cheer on the SDSU football team this Saturday as they compete against UC Davis at Qualcomm Stadium. Plus, after the game, check out the 101 KGB Sky Show. The “biggest fireworks show west of the Mississippi” will take place immediately after the game. Tickets start at $19.
