"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" - Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (2014)

A favorite American holiday fable — one that originated in San Diego — returns to The Old Globe in Balboa Park for the 18th year starting Saturday.

“Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” is a whimsical musical based upon the classic book by Theodor Seuss Geisel written in 1957 at his home in La Jolla.

The Old Globe’s production features such songs as “This Time of Year,” “Santa for a Day” and “Fah Who Doraze,” while the theater is transformed into snow-covered Whoville.

The first preview performance is Saturday, Nov. 7, opening night is Saturday, Nov. 12, and the production runs through Dec. 26 — a week longer than last year.

There will be a sensory-friendly performance for autistic children on Dec. 12, and a special performance in conjunction with the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 15.

Tickets prices start at $37 for adults and $24 for children and are available online or by calling the box office at (619) 23-GLOBE.
