
San Diego Magazine‘s annual “Best Restaurants” issue names the region’s top eating establishments in 63 categories, from atmosphere to cuisine, from burgers to sushi, and from brewpubs to food trucks.
The issue, which hit newsstands just before the Memorial Day weekend, listed both readers’ picks and the choices of restaurant critic Troy Johnson. Readers cast more than 6,000 votes online.

Restaurant of the Year — Juniper & Ivy in Little Italy
Best of the Best (Fancy) — Readers’ pick: The Marine Room in La Jolla; critic’s pick Addison in Del Mar
Best of the Best (Casual) — Readers’ pick: Croce’s Park West in Hillcrest; critic’s pick: Whisknladle in La Jolla.
Best New Restaurant — Readers’ pick: Bottega Americano in the East Village; critic’s pick: Ironside Fish & Oyster in Little Italy
Best Fresh/Farm-to-Table — Both readers and and the magazine’s critic picked The Red Door in Hillcrest.
Best Service — Readers’ pick: Donovan’s in La Jolla; critic’s Pick: Addison in Del Mar
Best Chef — Readers’ pick: Accursio Lota at Solare Ristorante in Liberty Station; critic’s pick: William Bradley at Addison in Del Mar
Best Happy Hour — Readers’ pick: Enoteca Style in Little Italy; critic’s pick: Puesto in La Jolla
Best Cheap Eats — Readers’ pick: Oscar’s Mexican Seafood; critic’s pick: The Kebab Shop. Each has multiple locations.
Best Desserts — Both readers and the magazine’s critic picked Extraordinary Desserts.
