Artistic Director Thierry Malandain’s production is a contemporary re-imagining of Shakespeare’s timeless tale. Set to the dramatic score of Berlioz’s Symphonie Dramatique, he modernizes the romantic tragedy using twenty-two classically trained dancers .

“My version is different from the others, because I chose Hector Berlioz’s dramatic symphony instead of Serge Prokofiev’s sheet music… I wanted to try to give to this ballet a more universal dimension,” Malandain said.

Malandain Ballet Biarritz was founded in 1998 and has since become one of the most important companies on the French choreographic landscape.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance on May 3 are $20 to $75 and are available at 858-459-3728 or online at www.LJMS.org.
