As expected, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” dominated the North American box office over the weekend, besting the release of Ben Stiller’s latest museum adventure, according to final figures released Monday.

“The Hobbit” earned $54.7 million between Friday and Sunday to lead the way, according to Rentrak. Stiller’s “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” debuted in second place with $17.1 million.

Another debut, the musical “Annie,” earned $15.9 million to open in third place.

The Biblical adventure “Exodus: Gods and Kings” collected $8.1 million over the weekend, while “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1” placed fifth with $7.9 million.

Rounding out the top five films of the weekend were “Wild” ($4.1 million); “Big Hero 6” ($3.6 million); “Top Five” ($3.59 million); “PK” ($3.56 million); and “Penguins of Madagascar” ($3.4 million).
