A ballroom in the University Student Union at Cal State San Marcos will be transformed into the classroom of Professor Severus Snape on Tuesday in an event for Muggles who love the “Harry Potter” series of books and movies.

Actor/musician V. Nigel Taylor will portray the dark and mysterious instructor at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

“V. Nigel Taylor has performed his impersonation of the notorious Professor Severus Snape — Harry Potter’s nemesis — at conventions and special events across the U.S.,” said Linda Pershing, a professor of Folklore and Cultural Studies at CSUSM.

In photos, he appears to be the spitting image of British actor Alan Rickman, who portrayed Snape in the films.

The ballroom will become Professor Snape’s classroom as he performs his unique brand of teaching while interacting with audience members as if they were students in his course on magical potions. Taylor will also discuss Snape as a tragic hero, the significance of Lily Potter and the effects of bullying.

For tickets, go to http://www.csusm.edu/al/calendar.html. General admission is $15; tickets at $5 for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult; and university staff and faculty admission is $7.50. CSUSM students get in for free.
