Legendary comic book writer and editor Stan Lee has abruptly pulled out of attending San Diego Comic-Con International, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The 91-year-old co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, among other iconic characters, was set to make appearances and signings on Friday and Saturday but has to cancel at the last minute because of health issues.

“Unfortunately Stan Lee has lost his voice due to laryngitis and is unable to attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and has regrettably had to cancel his appearances,” his spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter. “Stan is otherwise well and in good health, though he is disappointed to miss the event and wishes everyone a great time.”

Lee has been a stable at Comic-Con since its early days. He is still scheduled to make appearances at other conventions later this year, including his Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles.
