The San Diego Symphony goes geek for Comic-Con with special pops concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday featuring music from video games and science-fiction movies.
“Shut out of popular Comic-Con events? No worries…come get your geek on at the Summer Pops,” according to the symphony.
All three concerts take place at Embarcadero Marina Park South, just behind the San Diego Convention Center, where Comic-con will be underway. Gates open at 6 p.m.
Popular game music themes are given the full symphonic treatment in a visual and action-packed sensory extravaganza. Thursday at 8 p.m.
• Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton
This brand new orchestra event features Danny Elfman‘s famous film scores brought to life on stage by orchestra, and enhanced by visuals on the big screen of Tim Burton‘s original film sketches, drawings and story boards. Highlights include Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. Friday at 8 p.m. with a costume contest at 7 p.m.
Feature movie presentation with soundtrack performed by the symphony. This west coast premiere production features special appearances by composer Michael Giacchino and actor John Cho (“Sulu”). Saturday at 8 p.m. with a costume contest at 7 p.m.
