Beatles legend Paul McCartney will perform Sept. 28 at Petco Park, the first time in San Diego since his “Wings Over America” tour in 1976.

The news was offered up via the Petco Park Twitter account. Tickets will go on sale July 18.

There will be at least two pre-sale opportunities. Those registered through McCartney’s website can buy tickets July 14. San Diego Padres season-ticket holders will receive early access July 17.

Ticket prices at other stops have ranged from $49 to $254.

The icon, now 72, will bring his “Out There” arena and stadium tour to San Diego after stops in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles. With the stage in center field, the capacity for McCartney’s Petco show will be a little more than 42,000.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer said “Paul McCartney’s upcoming show may be the most memorable yet” for Petco Park.

McCartney returned to his tour, the Associated Press reported, after being hospitalized in Tokyo for a viral infection.

He resumed his tour in Albany, and according to reviewers, the set list includes Beatles hits, salutes to his late former colleagues John Lennon and George Harrison, McCartney’s work with the band Wings and his solo favorites.

Nearly 20 shows are set for the “Out There” tour across the country.

This will be the first full concert at Petco Park since Madonna played the ballpark on Nov. 4, 2008.
