San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined a Google Hangout from a shared downtown workspace to announce plans to redesign the city’s website.
“We’re going to change how the City does business by embracing the concept of making our government digital, online and mobile,” the mayor said during the announcement Wednesday at Co-Merge workspace.
“San Diego is America’s finest city, but we clearly don’t have America’s finest website,” he said.
The city is partnering with Code for America, a national nonprofit that helps residents and governments harness technology to solve community problems.
Faulconer said the city’s new website must provide easier online access to municipal services, departments and resources as well as be accessible via mobile devices in addition to standard desktop computers.
He said local small businesses are encouraged to apply to work on the redesign via an online survey. Completed forms are due by Sept. 12.
