A 50-year-old Poway man suffered severe burns Thursday when the motorhome he was working on in front of his home burst into flames, authorities reported.

The blaze in the 14900 block of Morningside Drive erupted shortly before 1 p.m. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the flames under control, said Battalion Chief Brian Mitchell.

Medics took the victim, whose name was withheld, to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of extensive burns.

The fire gutted the recreational vehicle but caused no other damage or injuries, Mitchell said. The cause was under investigation.
