Marines with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton have completed a long-range air assault exercise last week using MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft.

The exercise “Sea Horse Wind” involved 29 aircraft and more than 600 Marines from Dec. 4 through Dec. 9. It was the biggest aerial raid training exercise in 14 years.

“Out goal is to lift a battalion into an assault,” said Lt. Col. Rafael Candelario, the mission commander, who described the exercise in a video clip released to the media.

The last exercise of its kind used helicopters, which have since been supplanted by the faster Osprey fleet.
