According to Jeff Wilson of the FW Star Telegram, the San Diego Padres are discussing a deal that would send pitcher Andrew Cashner to the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers reportedly had high interest in acquiring Drew Pomeranz before a deal was struck with the Boston Red Sox.
Cashner would, however, come at less of a cost for the Rangers.
It would also return Cashner to his home state, where he attended high school and Texas Christian University.
Cashner has compiled a 4-7 record with a 5.05 ERA in 2016, which is his fourth season with the Padres.
Originally a first-round pick out of TCU, Cashner is 30-49 with a 3.47 ERA and 549 strikeouts in seven major league seasons.
Cashner would be the third starting pitcher dealt by the Padres this season, along with James Shields and Pomeranz.
