A stretch of Otay Mesa Road near Brown Field will be closed Monday night and each of the next three nights so crews working to connect three area highways can construct temporary support structures.
The roadway will be closed between Sanyo Avenue and La Media Road from 8 each night to 5 a.m. the following day, according to Caltrans. State transit officials said the closure was necessary so crews could place temporary bridge supports over Otay Mesa Road.
Westbound traffic on Otay Mesa Road will instead take Sanyo Avenue south to Airway Road, head west to La Media Road, then north to Otay Mesa Road. Eastbound travelers will use the same detour route in the opposite direction.
Access to state Route 125 will not be affected, according to Caltrans.
The construction work is part of a $21.5 million effort to ease border congestion by connecting northbound state routes 905, 125 and 11. The project is expected to be completed late this year.
