Good morning, San Diego.
Traffic on the 805 at Carroll Canyon Road was shut down yesterday afternoon for a rather spectacular reason – a small plane had to make an emergency landing in its southbound lands. All of the plane’s occupants escaped safely, and no one on the ground was hurt, but lanes were closed and traffic rediverted for several hours.
And Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, who ran against Republican Darrell Issa in 2020 but lost by eight points, says he is “seriously considering” a rematch against Issa in the wake of a Democratic redistricting plan.
And some sad news for San Diego: Kalluk the polar bear, who has lived at the San Diego Zoo since he was just a cub, has died of age-related complications at the age of 24. That is an advanced age for a polar bear, which typically live 15-18 years in the wild.
