Good morning, San Diego.
The tight-knit local alternative music scene is still reeling this morning in the wake of last week’s plane crash that killed all six on board, including Sound Talent Agency top executive Dave Shapiro.
As a musician turned agent, Shapiro was a well-known figure in San Diego, Alaska, and beyond. He was responsible for elevating the careers of not only musicians but also booking agents, managers, and promoters.
As tributes continue to pour in, the city is disputing a National Transportation Safety Board claim that systems were down as the flight approached Montgomery Field.
Meanwhile, UCSD has released a study challenging the concept of “brain drain,” brush fire season is kicking up, and an outbreak of fistfights is plaguing San Diego FC.
