San Diego Chargers rookie running back Melvin Gordon is unlikely to play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders due to an ankle injury, according to NFL Network.
Although the injury has been classified as minor, the team doesn’t want to take any chances with its 2015 first-round pick.

Gordon carried the ball only seven times last week against the Green Bay Packers — a career-low through his first six games — after suffering the injury in the second quarter and fumbling twice. He didn’t receive a single carry after his second fumble in the second quarter. The Chargers would lean on Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver to control the run game in Gordon’s absence. Woodhead carried the ball seven times for eight yards last week, while catching five passes for 63 yards. Oliver had seven carries for 23 yards and four catches for 40 yards in his first extended action of the season last week.
