UC San Diego women’s volleyball welcomed Kara Barkdoll Coy as a new assistant coach for the 2024 season, head coach Melanie Greene announced.

Coy served as a business operations coordinator for Cal State San Marcos from March 2023 to June 2024. Prior to that role she served as San Diego State’s volleyball operations assistant from 2018 to 2023.

“I am extremely familiar and comfortable with Kara from our previous coaching experience together at San Diego State,” said Greene. “Her confidence and knowledge of the game, along with her business experience, will be invaluable to myself, my staff, and the team. I am thrilled to have Kara on board, and I know she’s ready to hit the ground running!”

Greene was an associate head coach with San Diego State for 13 seasons, overlapping with Coy’s time as an operations assistant.

Coy was also a graduate assistant coach at Concordia University Irvine for two seasons, serving as the team’s video technician.

A Portland, Oregon native, Coy played collegiately at Cal State San Marcos, where she earned four varsity letters and was named team captain during her senior season in 2014. Playing as a middle and opposite, her best season was in 2013 as a junior, posting 179 kills, 42 digs and 37 blocks.
