A 27-year-old man already in jail on unrelated charges was re-arrested Friday on suspicion of shooting three people, killing two of them, in two South Bay neighborhoods over a period of about an hour, authorities reported.
Luis Alberto Ruiz of Chula Vista gunned down Roberto Soria, 25, and Pamela Burgos, 24, during separate confrontations two months ago, according to police.
The first shooting occurred about 11 p.m. on July 9, during an argument in the 2600 block of Gould Lane in the Palm City district of San Diego. Officers arrived to find Soria and a 22-year-old friend lying in the street and on a sidewalk, both suffering from bullet wounds.
Soria died shortly after arriving at a hospital. The other wounded man, whose name has been withheld, is still recovering from his injuries, according to police.
Burgos was walking with a man in the 300 block of Quintard Avenue in Chula Vista when she was mortally wounded by gunfire shortly after midnight July 10, authorities said. Her companion was uninjured.
Officials have disclosed no motives for the shootings.
Ruiz, who has been in local custody since July 16, was being held in San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
