The Grinch kicked off the season last week, but really Christmas is just about in full effect around San Diego, and yep, you’re right, you still haven’t even touched the turkey, to-furkey and the trimmings yet.
But at Liberty Station, you can enjoy Natale through Dec. 1 or ice skating through the remainder of the season.
Natale – Journey to the North Pole, a sort of Nutcracker meets Cirque du Soleil, is presented by Spain’s La Fiesta Escenica. Admission begins at $29, with performances from Wednesday through Sunday, and two a day from Friday to Sunday.
Meanwhile, sharpen up the blades on those skates. That’s because Liberty Station will feature outdoor ice skating courtesy of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, through Jan. 5. The rink remains open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day except for Thanksgiving and Christmas days. Admission starts at $15 for adults and $13 for children, with multiple discounts available.
In the South Bay, the free Island Blue Holiday Festival features music, dance, many vendors for your shopping needs and a gingerbread contest too. It kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chula Vista Harbor.
With San Diego Beer Week done and gone, foodies can turn to the North Embarcadero for the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival. The event, which concludes with Saturday’s Grand Tasting, includes hundreds of wineries, special chefs’ tables and presentations. Prefer tunes to the holidays and food? Then you have two options for you.
The Future Freaks Festival, at the Lafayette Hotel in North Park, features the best in house music beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing Saturday and Sunday. Admission starts at $7.
For a bluesier take, head to Roots Rising! at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The bill includes three performers, including Grammy winner Gaby Moreno, gospel artist Liz Vice and Matt Andersen, who has developed a wide following by touring around the world. Admission starts at $25.
