Emergency readiness will be put to the test Wednesday in South County with a large-scale drill that features volunteers with mock injuries and wounds, according to the Chula Vista Police Department, which is one of numerous agencies participating in the exercise.
The drill will test multi-agency and multi-disciplinary coordination and response to a mass-casualty attack. The San Diego County Office of Emergency Preparedness, the cities of Carlsbad and Chula Vista, emergency responders, law enforcement, fire agencies and hospital will take part in the staged scenario that simulates a coordinated attack that results in mass casualties at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Emergency personnel will practice their capabilities to coordinate care, communicate public information, stop a threat, set up family assistance centers and other services during the drill. In all, about 1,000 county, city, state, federal and private sector workers as well as volunteer “victims” will participate in the annual drill, which being staged at Legoland as well.
The regional readiness exercise starts at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the entertainment venue, Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said.
