On the back of a complete game shutout from sophomore right hander Cody Thompson, SDSU topped USD 3-0 Tuesday night at USD’s Fowler Park to sweep the college baseball season series 2-0.
The last time these two met up, on Feb. 24, the Aztecs defeated the Toreros 5-4 in 13 innings.
Thompson allowed four hits and struck out four to improve to 3-4 on the season.
He allowed just one extra base hit, and only one player advanced to second base on the night for USD.
The Aztecs broke out for two of their three runs in the seventh on an RBI single from junior shortstop Danny Sheehan and RBI double from senior outfielder Steven Pallares.
Sheehan led SDSU with three hits on the night.
Redshirt senior right hander Taylor Kaczmarek got the start for USD and had a solid outing as well. Through six scoreless innings he allowed one hit and struck out three.
Junior right hander Daniel Reitzler picked up the loss to move to 2-2, and was on the hook for all three runs.
Next up for the Aztecs is a three-game set at Air Force starting Friday, while the Toreros will stay home for a three-game series against Pepperdine, which starts Friday as well.
