San Diego State recruit, guard Jeremy Hemsley, was named the Los Angeles Times‘ Southern California player of the year in boys’ basketball after leading La Verne Damien High to the state Division III championship in his senior year.
He averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists out of the point guard and shooting guard position for his team that went 29-5 last season.
SDSU signed Hemsley (6-foot-4) in November of last year after being ranked as a four-star recruit by most prep-recruiting services. He was also considering offers from Arizona St., Colorado and Washington.
He may be able to fill an immediate need at the point guard position for the Aztecs, but he may also be considered at the shooting guard position, two spots where he played in high school.
Aqeel Quinn served as the team’s point guard for most of last season, but they will lose him to graduation.
Joining Hemsley in the freshmen recruiting class next season will be Brodricks “Buddah” Jones, a 6-foot-9, and growing, forward out of Lawndale High in Los Angeles.
